Tach issues After racing at the track last week I noticed that my factory tach didn't seem like it was very reliable. I did some searching and found that in almost all cases, they aren't. My question is, what do you guys recomend, a aftermarket tach or just a shift light? Where did you mount it? And are you satisfied with your choice? Is there any problems with hooking one up? i.e. will it cuase the car to throw a code, etc.

Since the automatic shifts for you, adding an
aftermarket tach is not going to bring much
(except infotainment) to the party. Manual
shifting the A4 is not recommended though
a few seem to like doing it. Tuning settings to
shift like clockwork is better in the end.

A handheld programmer will let you mess the
WOT shiftpoints around. But better, and not
-that- much more expensive (esp. if you own
a laptop already) is something like HPTuners
which will let you scan & record operation as
well as programming in detail engine & trans
parameters. Alternative (at more total $)
would be to buy a separate scanner/logger
tool and LS1-Edit.
Check the PCM section for way more than you
probably want to know, about all that.
