my car all of a sudden has a problem where the speedometer is delayed and slow. I have a 98 trans am a4. when i start to speed up from a stop the needle goes up very slowly and has about a 2 second delay. then when i stop it does the same thing. i took it into a shop and they said its either the gauge cluster or the speedo sensor. whats do you guys think and what should i try? also if it is the speedo then wouldnt my "check gauge" light go on?

check guages light comes on when u have a voltage, temp, oil pressure problem........

whats more likely to fail....my speedo gauge for the speedo sensor? my two options are to replace the whole gauge unit and hopefully it wou;d fix the problem if it was a broken speedo, or i can have the speedo sensor replaced

put the car on a scanner and read the mph, if its the sender, you will get 0 from the vss
