what gears with a 3500 tc
I know is been asked a thousand times, but im going to see if there is any new testimonies out there. I have a 2000 SS with headers, duals and lid. It made 314 hp 325 tq before the stall. I added a SSF 3500 tc and cut 1.6-1.7 60's all day. My problem is. I run 7.9 - 8.1 in the 1/8th @ 86 - 88 mph, 12.5 - 12.7 in the 1/4 @ 107 mph. Im still running 3:23 gears. i know people say that with a mid sized stall like mine, you dont need a gear change. But what have you guys done? have you all been able to squeeze a tenth or 2 out from a certain gear ratio over the stock ones?

auto would be a 3.73
stick would be 4.11
depending on what you want to do.
You will shave off a tenth with a gear change, yes. But you can do headers, y pipe, shift kit ( if auto ) or a good clutch ( for a manual of course ).
There are alot of different things you can do to be able to push out 2 tenths before you go and do a gear swap.
Under drive pulley
Nitrous kit ( alittle more money, but a used system for like 400 )
Drag radials
Torque arm ( for that ever lustrial 60' )
I would hold off on the gears, and go with something else.
Gears are good to upgrade when they have sheared the teeth off.

I would ask what would be your main goal with the "lower"(numerically higher) rear gears? If it is only to shave a few tenths, I guess it all depends on how bad you want those few tenths? But if your also talking about everyday driving the lower gears will make the stall feel a bit tighter. I have 3.73's and a tci3500 and really like the combination. Depending apon your goals for the car might help you make your decision. I personally have been considering a swap to 4.10's after my cam swap. I will have to wait and see what my rpms thru the traps are. I dont drive freeways often and I like the feel of lower gears so as long as I can hook at off the line and not spin it to high thru the traps I'll probably try the 4.10's. Setting up gears is not really that difficult and if you pick up some used ones it won't cost that much either.

I will add tho that in theory a more conservative rear gear (3.23/3.42) may actually utilize the torque multiplication of the converter better. I think this might be why you will sometimes see great times even with 2.73's and a big stall. Since it sounds as if you have broken your stock gears it is somthing to consider that the "lower" gears are also generally weaker.
