My crank pulley fell off last night!
At least now I know why the car has been wanting to sling the belt off... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
I did a burnout, and as soon as I let off the gas, I saw the check gages light come on, and saw the voltage drop on the voltmeter. I knew that it had tossed the belt again so I backed off the track and put the belt back on. 2nd try, same thing, but this time I heard a clunk. Evidently the crank pulley bolt had worked itself loose somehow and fallen out (this probably happened last Wednesday). With nothing holding it on, the crank pulley itself eventually just fell off.
Nothing looks damaged, so I think it will be fine once I get a new bolt. I can't remember if I used thread locker on the bolt last time, but I'll be sure to do so this time!
Obviously, I got no tuning accomplished last night...

This wasn't the first time I've reused one. I think I forgot to squeeze some loctite on it.

Right now I still have the ASP aluminum underdrive pulley. I do want to put an ATI damper on the car in the future. There is no provision on the ASP pulley. I'm concerned about the crankshaft snout. How would you put a pin in it?

Ahhh... Now I see. The picture in my head was a little different design.

Yes it is. It's possible that George needs a keyed assembly or something but old crank bolts just stretch and I'm sure they don't see all the way. I had a buddy who decided that he was tired and did not torque his all the way and it was not seated all the way and would throw belts at WOT, stuff would walk off.

If you are running an ASP pulley you might need to get a new one.I had the same problem with my car,I tried a new bolt and it still fell off.Sometimes if the pulley is taken off and reinstalled a couple of times it has to be replaced.

What pulley do you have? ATI?
I think ATI has a crank pinning kit that allows you to pin the crank pulley while its on the car. I don't know if it will work with a stock pulley or not, probably not. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

The pinning kit is just over $100. It looks like it comes with everything needed to drill the keyways and install the pins. The ATI dampers already come with the keyways, so only the crank would need to be modified.

Pinning is only for blowers. I doubt George's alternator has enough drag to spin the crank. Just put a new bolt in. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

George, where would you go around here for that?!? Or would you do it yourself?!?! You need and ATI anyway spinning like you do, and it's legal at your speeds! But just curious also about notching a non-ATI pulley. Let us know what you decide. When you hitting G'ville again?!? Haven't seen the new motor run yet!
