New '02 Z28 owner shift rpm ?
I've got 500 miles on my new Z28 and am going to do a couple of runs at the track next week. I've got the M6 tranny, what rpm should I shift at? Also, should I go through the finish line in 3rd or 4th?
Thanks,
Pete

Re: New '02 Z28 owner shift rpm ?
first off welcome to the furom.
OK now to racin' our cars tach absolutly SUCKS! the problem is that it's slow, so it's hard to be exact when looking a the tach and shifting I would recommend picking up a shift light that would help. With my car I have to shift at 5800 in first (or I hit the limiter whick I have set at 6350, then once you get out of first the tach is a little more accurate, so you want to start shifting a close to the limiter as possible if you start your shifts around 6000 you should be good.
As for going throught the traps do you have any work done to the car because when I was stock I could make it through in 3rd sometimes so it depends but now that I'm modded I have to shift into 4th
hope this helps

SHift as high as you can without tagging the limiter (6250). I used 5800/6000/6200.
Unless you are really slow, staying in 3rd slows you down.

Find your rev limiter, by bouncing off of it. then shift just below that, and power shift, keep the gas floored, and just tap the clutch as you shift, it sounds hard, but on street tires you will be ok and should not hurt anything. Also launch at about 2000 rpm or lower if you loose traction, and go on the third yellow. Good luck! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
