How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s
by Will Handzel.
In 1997 Chevrolet did the unthinkable: they re-designed the most popular and most modified engine in American history.
The Chevrolet small-block V-8 made its debut in 1955, and with its arrival, Chevrolet instantly leaped to the forefront in the minds of hot rodders and performance enthusiasts alike. While the engine grew in displacement and technology over the next 30 years, its basic design remained unchanged . . . until 1997, when the Generation III LS1/LS6 engine design was introduced. The LS1 engine first appeared in the 1997 Corvette, and soon followed in the Camaro Firebird and thousands of full-size Chevy trucks and SUVs. It also powers the hot new Pontiac GTO!
This book is essential for the enthusiast who wants to get the most performance out of this new engine design but is only familiar with the older Chevy small-blocks. Covered is everything you need to know about these engines, including the difficult engine removal and installation, simple engine bolt-ons, electronic controls for the Generation III engine, and detailed engine builds at four different power levels.

It sounds like crap. Not trying to bash the book, but it doesn't sound like it has much more in it than you can learn on this website. We even have the high-res pictures, LOL. They need a book that goes component by component on what you can change, what parts are available, and how to change it. And they need a book that can help us use HPTuners. I mean, come on, how long is it going to take for the retards at GMHTP or one of the other magazines to do a darn article on using something other than a Hypertech programmer?

I have the book. I think there is plenty of stuff in there not available on this site. However, I would not rate it as a "must have".
If you get it, you have to be careful when reading because there are errors. I have found serveral and am only up to page 30. For instance, on page 24 it says that the LR4 is 4.8L and the LM4/LM7 are 5.3L but on page 25, the LM4 is 4.8L and the LR4/LM7 are 5.3L. Caveat emptor!

Will Handzel is a sharp guy and he not only was a GM Engineer, he now heads up the GM Performance Parts program. I'm looking forward to reading it. You should be able to find it at any Cartech / SA Designs retailer. Check with Scoggin Dickey or Pace Performance.
