I just ordered a Vig 3200, it should be here soon and I am also going to to put a tranny cooler in it for reliability.
My goal is to run mid twelve's after a set of headers. I go to the track about once or twice a month and it is my daily driver.Should I be worried about my tranny?

not really...i would be more concerned about the rear. when i put my vig3200 in i blew up my rear with one hook on nittos...make sure you have a big cooler, and a fan switch wouldnt be a bad idea.

I knew the rear was cosidered weak but I had no idea it was that bad. Damn 10 bolt.

It's usually not. People have run 10s with stock rears (I ran mid 10s.) *Usually*, the ones who break them with autos are the ones who either a. don't pre-load the drivetrain before launching, or b. encounter wheelhop for one reason or another. And then there are the freak exceptions in each direction that either bust pulling 1.7s or pull off 1.3s without harm.

IMO, the stock rearend is a fairly safe bet until mid 1.5 60fts.

The stock tranny (if in good shape) will usually hold up for a good while below about 400 RWHP. Keep the temps cool, let it shift on it's own, and don't jack with the line pressure too much.

How about a shift kit? I'm installing a Yank ST3500 and cooler. Should I throw in a
shift kit too? Deep pan?

Using a 4L60E behind a 427 ci plus 4200 stall still running a stock rearend which has 70,000 miles on it. Have seen about 40 passes with this motor rear end is still hanging together no noises no issues. Colonel is right you need to preload off the lights, have rebuilt this transmision and really the secret is to keep the operating temps in the right place.

i have a 10bolt in my lt1 i lauch every time at 3500 a just dump the clutch with e-t streets and its fine

Deep pan with extra trans oil is a good idea, shift kit will help with clutch life, what about a trans temp guage so you can monitor the tranny temp, high temp will kill the trans.

I have a stock 10 bolt 3.73 in my Z71 and blew the **** out of it with a brake torque, so I'm not gonna say that your stock rear end is the best thing for racing.
