VHP heads
these are pics of my 4.8L heads that VHP CNC ported and added Ferrea 2.02/1.60 valves. these are going on the wife's 99 formula to complete the stage IV package. this will be a head only swap. using stock cam. stage V is the addition of the cam. will be using the VHP dual springs which are already on the car. forgot to grab the finished specs on the heads.

well let's think. because people don't wan't to/can't afford to do a bunch of changes all at once. most people want to do a a little at a time. so, they broke it down to the basic mods. then showed the average gains by doing it. i don't suppose you noticed the stages run together. stage II is all of stage I + some parts. then stage III is stage II + parts.

either the 047 or 055 cam. depends on how radical i think the wife will tolerate. most likely the 047. http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...%20LS1%202.htm

she might. she's kinda whiny about the exhaust being loud. so i put the smaller open plate in the borla. all she cared about was a better sounding exhaust. the rest was me until i got mine. but i'm still going to finish the packages. part of a deal with VHP and testing their stuff for you guys. the 055 will need a converter. hell the car could use one now. but, she tells me about the times she spins the wheels accidentally now. and when she beat up on a mustang guy. then she rolled the window down to show him he just lost to a girl. can imagine what'll happen if i add a converter to all this.

I'll have that 047 grind going in within a week or two here. Granted it's in a very light-in-the-mod-department 6.0, but...
The heads sure look nice. I'll keep an eye out for more info here.

For what it's worth (I have no idea - this is just an observation), The VHP ramps appear to be a little more rounded than my TR grind here... This is strictly going by sight and by feel.
I could literally feel a near-flat surface on the lobes of the TR grind. They almost felt concave. If you look at light reflecting off of them, and it's pretty apparent the ramps are near flat.
I don't know if the VHP lobes are "fatter" or "skinnier" in that respect... just that the ramp rates are slightly different.
I read the Crane ad this weekend talking about the Accelerated Lift design, and it mentioned that the cams will look more tame on paper, but when combined with the "AL" rockers (with the varying rates), the engine will see the cam as much more potent.
TO ME, that makes it SEEM as though the AL design cams are ground on the tame side... in theory giving the lifters and pushrods a break compared to the super fast XE-R style lobes. I imagine what they're doing is taking the quick-velocity strain off the lifters and pushrods, but still managing the quick ramp rates of these agressive cams through the rocker geometry -- without the valvetrain noise. (assuming the noise is lifter/pushrod related).
Works for me!

They look real nice. What kind of power were you looking at gaining from the VHP porting? (street, drag, torque, etc.)
I got the 047 installed and I love it. Idle tuning was a breeze - I'm at the 525/550 stock idle speeds, with a very minimal amount of lope and no issues AT ALL.
The cam makes boatloads of torque, and pulls hard all the way to redline. No need for a converter at all - it's pulling healthy at 1,500, hard by 2,000. I can see how Roger has traction issues with the cam.
Comparing the 047 to the TR220 I pulled out - the lobes on the VHP cam look "fatter", which must be where they get the larger .100", .200" durations. Going back to what I said above, I don't believe the lobes are ground lazy AT ALL, judging by the way this cam performs. Here is a quick pick. Top to bottom - TR220, stock, 047.

i'm hoping on 30-40hp throughout the range. but, we'll see. they took the 047 out and installed the 055. it softened the low end enough to help hook and brought the top end up more. on 18" drag radials in the heat, the car is almost in the 11 sec range.
