Default ypipe question

why is the ypipe's design so horrible? unless i'm missing something.. in which case please enlighten me..

why does it have so many angles?? the fewer angles, the better the flow, no?
i mean, even looking at SLP's ypipe for example.. it has almost 90 degree angles in it, which purpose i do not understand.. why are they there?!

To make the exhaust go where it should... you can't have a y-pipe without bends, it's against the laws of physics... unless you somehow fold the space time continuem so that the pipes line up, but that won't be for a couple of months at least
