i think what he's saying is he ran it to the top of 5th, shifted into 6th, and then ralized how fast he was going so he slowed down. i dont think he ment he put it in 6th and accelerated higher.

you guys must have some seriuos mods, i was at 130 ish at the top of 5th, and that was shiftin at about 5500 rmps before i put the brakes on. one thing about going fast that you dont think about till your up there is that it takes a LONG time to slow down.

I rolled my 5th to 135 and was probably to 4200rpms.....Maybe wasnt paying attentiopn to RPM'S due to the cars behind me! I got's a M6 LS1.....Felt fine at 135 too.....no floating feeling.
I will have to further investigate my 6spd when I get home....Got a straight stretch the goes for about 5 miles.....Should be plenty of start and slow down room......But this wont come around until MArch or Arpil or 05'...

Gears maybe? According to the gear calc with 4.10s:
167 MPH @ 4500 RPM
177 MPH @ 4750 RPM
186 MPH @ 5000 RPM
Even with the stock cam making power as low in the rpm band as possible, 6th gear is still pretty useless for top speed runs. 4.30 or 4.56 might bring top speed back inline with peak HP. But I sure as hell dont feel comfortable spinning that driveshaft past 10K RPM

Its gets a bit white knuckle for me at anything above 140 in my car. Maybe the drag radials dont help. Lowering should help out, but i dont go above 120 on any kind of a regular basis. Hit 130 the other day with a friend in the car, and yes, even with some decent brake upgrades (SS lines, SBS pads, Brembo OE rotors, Motul Fluid) it takes a hot friggin minute to bring it down from speed. Do be careful.

I've hit 140, and I was totally shocked at how good the car felt up there. Then I was also shocked as I was coming up on traffic how long it really did take to slow back down.
I remember thinking I had slowed back down enough -- but I was still RAPIDLY gaining on the Honda SUV in front of me. I looked down at the speedo and I was still going 95!!!!
Confirmed: It takes a hell of a long time to slow back down from 140.

Actually..I usually only do this with ZERO traffic anywhere..late at night... I back off and let the air/engine drag start bringing me down... You are right I hit an exit ramp first time i had the car back out doing ~140mph and I had to stand on them...get off...(tried to let them cool a lil bit) and then drop the rest of the speed off before I got to the stop sign.
Next mod: Brake upgrade.

I've hit the 155 mph twice. Once sober and once drunk. The sober experience felt too good and the drunk experience felt too bad. Scared me enough to never want to do the speed again on the street. Since, I've hit the 130, 135, and maybe the 145 mark and my car loves it. Problem is, in H-town you just never know who or what may pull out in front of you. I can name twice a driver has pulled in my lane when I was at an unknown high speed. Once, my car went side to side, drifting and only by incredible luck did I not lose complete control. The other time, a driver pulled directly into my lane in the last minute, I hit my breaks, my tires slightly squeeled as the driver in front of me hit his breaks, my anti-locks kicked in as I started to drift, the other driver gave it the gas and I know I was within inches of his back bumper. That was a heart stopping, knuckle gripping, eyes closing experience. To be careful is not saying enough.
Here is another high speed story that has a sad ending. My nephew has about the sweetest 87 IROC I've seen in a very long time. Up at the lake one weekend is doing 140 on a two lane road. Hits the grass and spins forever. The IROC hits a tree *** end first. My nephews sub box with dual 12's flies through the back window and goes more than 100 yards through the woods. You can only imagine what the car looked like. Fortunately, my nephew was somehow ok.
