Exclamation Please Help!!

I've been debating over a cam swap and i think I want to take the plunge...I have some questions for all the experts though...first...my financial situation doesn't allow me to do both heads and cam...I was looking at the hot cam but I need to know if its possible and/even a good idea aka reliable to do a cam swap without doing the heads...the car is a 02 camaro ss m6 and is driven daily...so drivability and reliability is of the up most concern...please all you cam gurus help me out

I would go with just a cam change, if you can't afford both. Just by adding a TR227, my rear wheel dyno went from 337hp to 390hp on my 98 (not quite as good stock flowing heads as your 02). Drivabilty is great with this cam, and I do daily drive my car.

yes i would chunk the idea of the hotcam and get somthing like felton mentioned, or maby a nice 224 cam.

TONS of people on here are cam only cars and are kicking SERIOUS *** with their setups! reliability with heads and a cam wouldnt be much difference than just a cam, if you get the rest of your valve train setup right. i plan on doing a 231/237 cam in mine or maby a little smaller. do your hw on camshafts and read JRP's cam guide. if you check the internal engine forum, there are new cam results popping up left and right.

i would definitely get a cam if you can't afford heads anytime soon. its so much more fun with the extra power. however, i really wish i went with heads and cam at the same time.

Many cam only f-bodies and y-bodies.....

always go bigger than you want, cuz you will always want more.

the only thing to watch out for is your stock springs and retainers........ a nice 224 cam is a start, but you will definately need a tune (ls-1 edit) if you are an m6 you will be able to drive, but an automatic might give you more of a problem w/ idle and stalling.....

Friend has a cam only C5 coupe m6 w/ 380hp, cam only and bolt ons.....on stock heads

Don't forget you will most likely need to swap springs/retainers as well as cam. It's not just a "cam" swap.

good call pen.

Look into a good cam kit sold by many sponcers------------------->
anything in the 222-230 duration .540-.590 lift 112-114 lsa will give you a huge jump in hp, will idle very well(with a good tune) , will have good street manners, and keep you ahead of most any car on the street.
