Default Mass air flow sensor ????

Should I buy a mass air flow sensor for my 98 LS1? Grannatelli? SLP? Or should I just remove the screen from my current stocked sensor?? I heard that the computer will get "tricked" for about 200 miles before it recognizes that you removed the screen is this true???

DOn't Spend your money on a new MAF. I bought the slp unit. It is nice but I saw no gains. As for de-screening, if you have the FRA mod or plan on getting the FTRA kit. I would not de-screen.

the stock maf supports over 400 h.p.
no need for a aftermarket maf.

Over 400 is right. Most think its close to 650, but by 475 almost everyone has switch to 90mm intake setup or custom, and run the 85mm delphi Z06 MAF at that point, which has known tables and can be tuned for. the lack of known tables for the aftermarket units is what makes them so dangerous, unless your tuner knows what they're doing and can tune for the difference, its a crap shoot.

Default I am American there for i drive American!

run your stock MAF! the aftermarket ones usually make you run lean. I had one and went back to stock. Not worth the money at all.

So what’s the consensus on the MAF situation then? I think I killed mine and need to replace it. Chris (Obsessed) from Dallas is going to tune the car but don't want to take it to him with a pieced out MAF to try and tune with. Should I upgrade to the 85mm Delphi Z06 MAF sense I freaking have to by an MAF anyway? I just hate to buy a part and not buy something better than stock especially sense I plan on Modding my ride a lot more over the next year or so. What do you guys think?

Get the delphi since youre getting it tuned anyway. Worst case you set a lean code on the way to the shop.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just picked up a 02 stock MAF with screen and I need it bad my car seems to be getting worse with every time I drive it and its running super rich I can smell it and so could some of my friends earlier today. What causes a low manifold absolute pressure code? And I had some other codes too like random misfire and such. It just sucks I wouldn't ever recommend that anyone attempt to clean the MAF sensor doesn't matter how light you touch it will still crap out on you. Thanks for the opinions and I'll let you know if the MAF fixes it in a couple of days when it arrives.

Also sorry to Hijack your thread! Leave the stock MAF alone you will wish you had left the screen intacked a few days after if you remove it and don't waste the money on an aftermarket MAF unless you are just going to do minor mods with no dyno tune then you may see a little gain but if you want to do more mods and get a tune you'll have to find a stocker or Z06 stock to put back in.

No problem, I think I'm gonna leave my stocked MAF. It seems the money can be put to better use

I have been getting codes with my MAF also. Alwayse at WOT from second to third. It says high voltage or some thing. This is also my second one. My question is, is the Pace 85mm MAF the same as the Delphi one for the ZO6 you guys are talking about?

I just checked mine and it is the Delphi one. I will have to double check the code tomorrow and see if I am getting the same code. I still think I am going to stay with my stock MAF.

Default Maf

It wont matter what upgraded maf u use after tuning. Use the one you think will net you the most power. Without tuning, the car will pull lean codes and other crap if you dont use the stock maf.suck my *****!

In '02 the GM engineers decided to go screenless on the Z06 as one of the ways to flow more air and get more power, now that should tell us something. I've removed my screen on the '97 and no lean codes, but some do report running lean after removal (good indication that more air/volume is present), and to get the extra few ponys we must retune.
