Earlier tonight when I was driving my 2002 S-10, the SES light came on. The truck only has 16,900 miles on it.

When I got home and checked the code, it came up as:

P0128 - Coolant Thermostat

I had it running and my coolant temp was right around 162. First time I ever saw a code like that....

My truck is completely stock so I am going to assume that the T-stat is stuck slightly open.

It's still under warranty, do ya think the dealer will fix it for free?

probably, my gtp and my friends 02 v6 camaro both have thrown thermostat codes...i can imagine an s-10 throwing something similar.

There should be no problem with them replacing it. You are well under your mileage, and your time isn't up yet right? It is not a "wear" item. I would make them replace it.

Bill, I would weigh the hassle versus the cost. Personally, I'm way to impatient to deal with the trouble of taking it in to a dealer and having them do it. A T-stat is a very quick and cheap job. Might be better off to just knock it out in the garage and be done with it. On the other hand, the dealerships try to get you for all they can when you buy the vehicle. It might be nice to get a little back.
I'd still probably just do it myself.

That's true. You'll be stuck with a stocker...I'd much rather have a 160 degree thermostat. They run well in S-10s. I ran the lower temp thermostat in my 2002, and my 1998 S-10 4.3Ls when I had them. I wish HPTuners would support S-10s, but I don't think they do....maybe though.
