Default timing chain damper

Any one ever seen or used one of these? It has a GM part #(88958607) suposidly GM was going to use them on ls1 & ls6 engins but decided not to.Was wondering what it costs and if it works?

I use one. It just bolts to block, some blocks need the holes tapped for threads. Do a search and you can see some installed pictures of it.
