I think that means "Second Gear Start"

Was it an automatic? I think the auto's with 3.23's have that and it means that it will start in second gear instead of going into first.

that is exactly what it is....in the 98's the automatic transmission did not go into the gear you selected...it just wouldn't go past it...so if you push it in it starts in second gear instead of first...in the newer cars you can just move the shifter into second and achieve the same purpose....

i wish i wouldve had that in my 96 ta. i was stationed in pensacola, fl and i got pulled over on a two lane road at the beach, sand on both sides, and got stuck. i asked the cop for help out, but he said no...just put it in second gear, not realizing it was an a4. i tried though, but it just spun thru 1st and by the time it got in 2nd it didnt matter. im just glad i know guys with trucks

not all the time, thankfully. one time on my way to tampa, where im from originaly, i got pulled over at like 11:30 at night, about 80 miles away, for doing 110 in a 70. he asked if i was in a hurry, and i said yes, and he asked why and i told him i was going home for the first time in months and it was my moms birthday...which were both true btw. and he let me go.

If you lived where it snowed a lot you would see another REALLY good reason to have SGS. I use it a lot in the winter in my daily driver v6 Camaro. You can take off much easier in the snow in second instead of just spinning in first.
