Subframe connectors--am I making this harder than it needs to be?

Default Subframe connectors--am I making this harder than it needs to be?

I recently sold my Turbo Buick and bought a LS1 Z28 so I am pretty new to 4th Gen F-bodies. I want to add subframe connectors to my car so I did a search and read dozens and dozens of posts. There are numerous choices and many different opinions on what is best. I am leaning towards the BMR box tubing ones but I am open for suggestions. Which ones did you go with and why? Is there enough difference to make a difference between all of the different manufacturers? Any to steer clear of? Thanks for the help.

Boxed SFC's are stronger than tubular..but tubular offers more clearance..so if you're car is lowered and has headers, it may scrape a lot over bumps.

SLP's design is alittle different offering cross bracing.

They are also significantly more expensive.. It depends on how much you want to spend and what you're looking for.

If you want the best of the best like i do then you would buy the chrome-molly tubular SFC from spohn.They are 275.00 for the pair and weigh only 13 lbs......together as a pair,6.5 lbs each.or you can buy heavy steel boxed style that are ugly and can weigh as much as 35-40 lbs.The pair from spohn tuck about 1/8" higher then the pinch welds so it cant be seen unless you get under the car.more money but worth it.

the SPHONS are nice if you got the $$$,,,

i got the BOXED BMR's and you cant see them from the side.... they only sit 1/8th of an inch under the pinch welds... good price, good quality, and they get the job done welll.... the car feals great when there in....

I have the BMR boxed, and they are tucked up very nicely. I have not scraped them on anything. The boxed kind also give you a place to put the jack. Chrome moly will need to be TIG weld, where steel can be MIG welded (easier and cheaper).

If strength is your number one priority, choose the boxed design. Boxed tubing is torsionally stronger than round tubing however you will lose approximately 3/4" of ground clearance when using this style. - quote from BMR.

Oh well,,I don't know anyone who bent/broke their SFC's from torque... tubular or boxed.

I would assume drag cars use chrome moly for their tubular designs (lighter and stronger)..Some tubular SFC's are simply mild steel.

BMR is the best choice for a manufacturer you can't beat the quality to price ratio. I have a friend that has been running 9 second passes on the tubular subframe connectors. Ideally for 9's you should be using boxed BMR's,but then again this just prooves my piont.

BMR subframe connectors also stay hidden and out of the way. I have many mods done to my own car, and one thing I know is that everything that I buy with a BMR name is of excellent quality.

Is that 3/4" below the lip or what? if so then my exhaust hangs lower then that already. I want the strongest most supportive ones i can find, all the rattles & squeaks are driving me crazy

I've read reports of people having MORE squeaks and rattles AFTER installing SFC's. I don't know that I'd invest in them as a solution to that problem.

Im going to get a set to stiffin up the car regardless, i was just lookin forward to smoother more relaxing ride, id heard that it helps reslove some of the squeaks, like in the t-top area ect...

If you want the best get the wolfe through the floor subframes. They tie your frame together and give you a sturdy place to mount your cage

I have Spohn tubular SFC, weight was not an issue, so I got the regular steel. They are $175. I got mine free, because Spohn used my car for the proto type.

the chrome molly versions do not have to be tig welded,the end plates are steel only the tube is chrome molly.Regular mig is all you need.

bmr boxed here, when i had the stock y pipe, it hung lower than the subframe connectors
