The deuce vs HPE'S LS1
Well me and my boy Brandon took a little trip down to HPE(houston performace engineering) to pick up some race gas. While we where there, we decided to set up a race with an ls1. I've never been there before nor did I know anyone there with a car. So everyone there decided to set me up with an ls1 with heads and cam package. So before we ran, I asked him what was his mph through the quarter and he told me 119. I'm thinking to myself 119 through the quarter seems a little high for me with just those bolt on's. Anyways we drove to the closest hwy, we started in 2nd(we tried to get even but our rpm's are different) and we both punch it. He instantly gets about a car or so on me, we shift into 3rd and I start to pull I at his bumper pulling nicely. Then I try to shift into 4th but I missed!
Second race! We start off in 3rd gear. This time I got the jump and held it to about 120 or so. Then I look in my rear view mirror to see where he was and I saw that he was about 1 car behind. Anyways this was one of the best races I have had in awhile.
By the way I made 402 rwhp at 18psi and that is what I ran him at. I could have run more, but I have a manual boost controller and didnt havet he tool to crank it up any.

Assuming Brandon is the brandon with the Blue 98 TA... His car is nice as well.....

Yea I was really impressed with there shop! Can you tell me how fast an ls1 is with heads and cam is. I find it hard to believe that someone can run 119 and only have the heads and cam package and minor bolt ons.

it is HORSEPOWER engineering Chris..
damn i wish i would have known you were going to be at the shop with Brandon. I would have shown up and shot some **** with you, since i work there and all.
seems to me you ran a Red SS didnt you . it has a th350 in the car and still makes good power. it is full weight, and can maybe trap higher then 119
it must have been scooter's ss you raced... (check out the pic)

I think the one I ran was white. It's a shame I cant remember since it was only a week and a half ago.
I made 467 at the wheels with 24-25psi and water injection, but my intercooler started to heat soak, so I keep the boost to a minimum. Once I get the head, cams, intake manifold and a different intercooler, I should make in upwards of 600 flywheel maybe a little more!

Hey Chris... i just realized who you raced... i talked to him tonight.
For your information, it was a CAM ONLY formula. with a 6 point cage and a ford nine inch.. you should thank your lucky stars he does NOT have heads on there or a full bottle...
up the boost and come back to run him, cause it will get even better bro. Take care

From what I heard, he has heads to! Furthermore, I think it would be pretty hard to run 119mph with just a cam and no head work! Considering I was only at 18psi(low boost) and started to pull on the top end 1st race, I'm very content with the results. Remember, I still have a stock head, intake manifold, cams basically everything up top.
I would love to run him again with his other mods! Just let me know when, becuase I might just have to turn it up to 30

Well that is a pretty strong ls1 then! I've raced a Z06 with minor bolt on's last week and yanked him pretty nicely from a roll. I wouldn't expect such a minute performance upgrade to have that much of a hp gain. Props tp him then.

no we have a stock 2002 ss 6 speed with headers and exhaust ls6 intake and cam only can't remember the exact specs but in the .570 or so range and it trapped 118 on it's 2nd pass on the stock tires. get some traction and a good tune we feel 120 isn't out of the question. and this is at full weight with even the backseat and everything still in the car.

haha, the car is a cam only cam, 6 speed, nine inch and it traps over 120 NA cam only. Also from what everyone else was saying the first race he pulled you bad, second race he gave you the move but you started a car ahead and he still pulled around you.

OK, Just ran across this thread.... I'm a friend with both parties that raced.
Chris W (MR2) mild mods
Little Chris (LS1) CAM Only
Both races where fun as hell, Turbo cars Vs NA cars are hard to run from a roll, due that when both cars are even with one an other aren't in the right RPM range.
1st Race, Little Chris (LS1) jumps about a car 1/2 in front, then Chris W (MR2) starts pulling up next to Little Chris (LS1), then Chris W (MR2) misses a gear
2nd Race, Chris W (MR2) starts out a car in front of Little Chris (LS1) due to the difference in RPM range. They hit it Chris W (MR2) pull ahead, Little Chris (LS1) coming up hard, then we hit traffic like no other. (I say my prayers we don't hit anyone@110+)
All in all both good runs, I'm a Domestic Fan all the way but Love the Supras and their little brothers the MR2.
O and Chris W (MR2),
Little Chris (LS1) did run the trap speed 119 on Drags he can launch that car hard with a 9inch
