M6 gear swap...3.73 or 4.10?
Car is in sig...
I want to swap the stock gears for either a 3.73 or 4.11. I do NOT want to change the rear end, just the gears. Durability is important for me, I don't want reliabilty to go down too much. What will be the SOTP difference between:
3.73 vs stock
4.11 vs 3.73
Whick do you guys recommend considering all of the above?

I would stay with what you have and save for a 12 Bolt. I know you don't want to change the rear end but this is the best route to go. 4.10 will be easy to break and 3.73 is not enough of a jump for me.

the above 2 guys are right, the stock -> 3.73 gears wont be a very big jump and the 4.10's are just too risky in a 10 bolt 6speed car.
SOTP from 3.42 to 4.10 gear swap is supossedly phenomenal, i'll find find out this coming week (see sig ). i would just save for the bigger rear. might also want to look for a stock 10bolt with the 4.10/3.73's installed already on the boards for sale, you could probably get one cheaper than a gear swap, and help out your forum buddies.
if it makes you feel better, i blew up my 10 bolt, which had 3.08 gears installed before i got it. i cant imagine what happened to the stock 3.42. i blew up the 3.08 with the mods in my sig without the nitto's (i was running 245/50/r16 street tires lol) i'm telling you its not worth having your car up on jackstands forever long in the driveway and then having to spend mucho bux on a whole new setup.

For a all motor setup the 4.10's rock!(my setup) If you are running a power adder like nitrous/forced induction the 3.73's will pull like a train from what I hear.
The 10bolt will last on the street.....and i run Nitto DR 275/40's 17's on my car with no problems.
If your licking your chops to get the car to the 1/8 or 1/4 track so you can drop the hammer at high rpms you should listen to the guys above and save for a better rear end.
Keep in mind that people are breaking 12bolts often too.....so maybe a 9inch or even stronger the dana.
