Anyone heard anything about the new ThunderRacing 230/236 cam?
Here's the info:
Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - 230/236 .592/.602 112 LSA 2400-6800 RPM Power Band. Excellent mid-range & high RPM power. 3200+ stall, 3.42+ gear, computer tuning required. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended.

first i've heard of it. in another thread i asked jason if there were any new camshafts comming down the pipe line but i got no response. it appears there using the same 236 lobe from the 236/230 cam but a more aggressive 230 lobe. i'd be interested in an overlay between the two.

It seems to be on XE-R lobes but u never know. On paper it seems to be a perfect cam to bridge the gap between something like the TR224 to TSP228R to G5X3, MS3. I was heavily leaning towards the F13 112+2 but the lobes seemed very similar to my 228/230 .571/.573 112+2 XE cam. FWIW that XE grind made 420/399 on my bolton Z06(headers, UD pulley, cold air, Borla catback). While looking at my graphs noticebly torque-it seemed down on torque around 3000rpm(325ft/lbs)-although you would never of noticed it. I think the driveabilty of the 230/236 would actually be better than my 228/230. It also seems that the "6 degree" split cams are producing more low end torque and pulling out well on the top end.

I'm goin to be picking up an FM9 this week - 232/236 585/600 114 I do believe...drivability should be very close to the FM13 but with a few extra horses. Hopefully the bigger split will help a bit, despite its 114 LSA. might want to look into that cam as well.

I actually have this cam.
Jay from Absolute Speed ground this cam for me in the fall of 03' for my Stage 3 5.3's.
The car did not dyno what we thought....although it did break a driveshaft...it was in Florida (shitty weather that day)...and we did not finish dynotuning. It still made around 420 (last dyno before broken driveshaft) through a 12 bolt w/4.11's.....so I guess it would have made big power anywhere else in the country dynoing with the stock 10 bolt like everybody else dynos!
Anyway...the cam is FRICKIN' awesome. The car went 119 on street tires in September 04'.
If they grind it...GET IT!

I don't it would work with a milled head and that large of a valve. FWIW I think alot of us get carrried away with what "we think" we can get away with. I too was looking for a cam to fit without flycutting but in order to make big power and be streetable you have to take everything( gasket thickness, compression, cam timing) in consideration.

sounds like there competition for hte 233/239 tsp cam... i dont like reverse split cams personally especially since im spraying, hmm.... but this cam might work for me.

hilarious actually b/c me and my buddy said they need a tradition split cam... if u look all they had ws the 224, 224/227 and the trex lol.. nothing in the middle that wasn't reverse split, perfect timing.

Sounds a lot like tha cam I had ground for a friend he is makeing decent power and good track times. Salemaster is his handle on here it was 230/236 591/607113+4. Sounds like Thunder has a decent cam if you ask me. Could be just a little bit bias as the specs are so close to the ones I specd LOL!

all this talk about what lobes a cam is ground on is really making this a hard choice for me... everyone goes back and forth on what they think cams like 233/239 by tsp are on... i have no idea how it works excpet it seems x-er are the most xtreme followed by cam motion, followed by whatever lobes the tr224 are on.. from all this talk thats all ive learned and its prolly way wrong.. i know futral uses cam motion and tah supposedly its easier on the springs ect and makes good power. but i have no idea what is the best for me.

maybe i should just call up and order this cam tommorow with patriot duals.. even though its prolly no different then all the other 23x/23x im looking at, atleast id be the only one with it for a few hours!
