i've got a blown up 10 bolt in my driveway right now and a 12 bolt in the mail, and i blew mine with 3.08 gears! if you spend this money on the 10 bolt, you will hate youself when it blows.

Let's see... with just bolt-ons and 4.10s in my 10 bolt, I was cutting 12.60s on Nittos. Of course, I also sheared 8 teeth off the ring gear launching on Nittos, and completely trashed the 10 bolt as a result. Get a 12 bolt or 9 inch, as the other have said... i wish I hadn't wasted my money on the 10 bolt gears.

I am doing the 4.10s too. My rear is not stock though. All you need is the gear and an instal kit as well as gear lube and additive. As long as you do not hop or drop the clutch above 4500, you will be fine on a DR. Good Luck!

Not always true... let's see, I had the T/A cover, all new parts in the 10 bolt, a brand new posi, and redline gear oil with additive. Didn't drop the clutch at anything over 3000 rpms, I have a good suspension that I get zero wheel hop with, and still sheared 8 teeth off the ring gear on Nittos.

The 4.10 ring & pinion is just too small in the 10 bolt to sustain any kind of abuse.

So you blew the gear with a Posi not a Torsen? I hear this a lot. I hardly ever hear someone blow the gear with a Torsen. And it is usually the gear teath. this is because the axles are like tooth pics and flex and since the posi is small, it goes along for the ride making the gears not line up right and snap. The Torsen has a stronger case and holds up better. Now if you have a stock rear with a posi, save your money. If you have a torsen and don't beat the hell out of it, you will be fine. I am doing it because I have axles, a cover and a torsen with good suspension.

I've had over 200 passes on DR's leaving at over 5000 with a stock 10 bolt and LS6 clutch.. no problems..

You just can't dump the clutch.. you have to use clutch slippage and tire spin.

I'm going to go to a set of Richmond 4.10's soon. I'll try hard to break them, being the pinion is so small I probably will.

If you don't already know the suspension is going to hurt that 10 bolt even more....it may not break but you will shear off teeth and need new 4.10's every three months

Maybe if I were over 400rwhp. As long as there is no hop, it is ok. Not to mention my car is not too heavy. 3520 rw. I am dropping 100lbs this winter (hopefully).

A Zexel/Torsen is a posi diff... just a clutchless posi diff. And because mine is a 2001, it had a Zexel/Torsen differential from the factory. That's what I had in the 10 bolt when the teeth came off the ring.

I also have a very good suspension... no wheel hop at all. Never launched over 3k rpms at the track because I was afraid of breaking things... but that didn't help, the ring gear still got trashed.

Ring & pinion is too small for 4.10s in a 10 bolt, period... some get lucky, while others end up with hundreds of dollars down the drain. It's your call, but if I had to do it all over again, I would never have wasted the money on parts for the 10 bolt if I planned on ever racing the car.

I am having a 9inch built right now...save your money. Thunder has a whole kit is you must upgrade your 10 bolt (I did this - spent about $800 total for parts/labor). 4.10s also started whining after a short while...

I *highly* recommend waiting...I'm kicking myself right now
