Unhappy LS1 Cam Swap With Double Roller

Is there anyway to get the cam sprocket off a double roller without removing the oil pump? I assembled the engine out of the car, now I wan't a bigger cam, kinda don't like dropping the oil pan.

Any input is appreciated.

Yes, I just did. Just remove the 3 bolts from the cam sprocket and drop it down. You should plenty of slack in the chain.

I think you will need to drop the pan... Make sure to losen up the lower trans bolts going into the oil pan and then just take out the pan bolts in the front and lower the pan without completely dropping it to give you enough room to remove the oil pump and swap the double roller in.

The way I understand it is the double roller was installed with your original build...? If so, you just want swap cams now. If that's it, then there is no need to remove the pan. Just remove the cam sprocket and let it drop down enough to get the chain off.

I don't think you guys realize how little play is in the double roller. You can't get the cam sprocket (not the lower one) away from the chain cause the chain doesn't bend. I think if you loosened the oil pump bolts, you would have enough play to get it out without having to lower the pan.

Just did mine last weekend and didn't have to loosen the pan or oil pump. It takes a little patience but it will work.

Thanks for the input. I assembled and installed the enigne as a small block. I remembered not having any slack at all in the Double Roller chain. Maybe with a few miles on it, it stretched a little?
Thanks, Anthony R. Glad to hear it has been done. Did you have a Rollmaster?
