Good afternoon,
I recently raced a 2005 gto. With my 2000 WS6. Basically both bone stock. Except for shifter and air filter. Very close race. Depended on who got the jump off the line. After that the whole shot, we were even through out the reander of the race. GTO seemed to hook better then me, so he got me more times then me getting him.
Is that about right for the GTO. Or does this guy not know what he is doing?

Are you both 6 speeds? He has 400 hp and you have 350 or 325, what ever your belive the underated ls1's had. You have the weight advantage, but he def had more power unless your car isnt stock. I would think he should barely beat you every time.

At what RPM should I be launching the car?

it should be close from the start but after third gear the gto should pull you if driven properly, the gto's hit 100 in 11.5-11.7 seconds the ram air's and ss's hit 100 in about 12.5-12.8 haven't raced a ls1 yet a few stangs and a wrx (sti)??? from about 55 but no camaro's or ta's

I would not expect to win in a stock WS6 vs. a 2005 GTO. The difference is not great IMO but enough. The way I am now I would race a stock 05' though.

BTW, nice kill. The 0 to 60 is reported better than the WS6 was so congrats.

Well, we are going to try it again. I am going to use a stickier tire. I really believe I can beat this guy. I feel I cant get enough traction. I'll let you guys know. There is a video of this race. It is at delawarestreetracing.com under videos. 1st race I mess up. The second I did well, and the third I over reved first.

2005 GTOs are LS1, are they not? (I thought the '06 was the first year for the LS2).

If so... there is little to no power difference between both cars stock. The f-body should win this if it has the better driver.

I ran an 05 GTO on the interstate and let him get a big jump both times I raced him. He helpd the lead for a little bit then I started to reel him in fast. By fourth I was pulling him HARD. My buddy with headers and exhaust beat him f as well. The GTO did have 3 passengers but we were going from a roll so that may not make as much of a difference. Either way, I was impressed.

the 05 gto's are 6.0 400 hp ls2, don't be fooled by the 04's because alot of people are putting the hood on their cars, i have found that 1-2 shift is not that good in the car but at the top of second and third gear the ls2 really starts to move the only draw back is the gto is a porker

That was the second 05 I've seen and the first one I've seen in motion. Luckily I got to race it because not many peeps want to race around here except GT's. Those things are pretty loud for a stock car.
