Blown head gasket, cylinder pressure getting into Coolant ports.

What he said. Mine did the same thing then caused the engine to overheat. Warped one head and the bronze valve guide in the other was moving up'n'down with the valve stem. I've waited a week for a local machine shop to tell NLP IF (not necessarily when) they can properly fix the guide, two weeks and counting without the daily driver.

One quick test for a blown head gasket is to run the motor with the rad cap off, and the water pump belt off. If it blows bubbles in the rad, gasket is blown.

I would first check the over flow line and air bleed line hookup on the radiator. The overflow line should be at the radiator cap and the one going to the engine under it.This might sound like common sense but I've gotten 2 cars that had this backwards and it will cause the same problem you have.
