Question Just installed GM Hot Cam

Engine won't idle. Just finished install about an hour ago. Idled OK when it was cold but warmed up it surges and dies. Have Predator. I put in tune for this cam from Diablo Sport. Is this normal? Will the PCM learn to idle?
Thanks for any help.

from what I have heard it may take them a couple of trys to get it right, like a mail order tune its most likely not going to be perfect the first time

use a 13/64 drill bit and drill the hole the trottle blade
dont go any higher than a 15/64 bit

it help me
cold it would not stay idle with out a little help by giving it some revs
parking lot turns will suck too!!

Why did you waste your money on the hotcam when there lots better cams available?

Nothing wrong with the hotcam, especially the lower lift.

Sounds like the tune is close and the idle is just a bit off. You could try to let the computer "learn" the idle or have it fine tuned.

The hotcam is not a waste. My roommate has a 2002 z28 with headers, airlid, fast toys, tune and a hotcam that runs 12.0@115mph all day on drag radials, stock clutch and stock 3.42 gears.

From our past experience with this cam it will take a day or two for the pcm to learn. We did the "Hot Cam" on one of our shop cars a couple of years ago, and it was a very nice upgrade. It would die after we first started it, and if we were about to make a turn and just pushed in the clutch. This went away after a few days of driving around.

my hotcam idled like crap...i had to get it tuned for it to even make it run half decent..i drilled the hole etc....it just wouldnt idle it would start then die. i got it tuned and it did help but i think my tuner just raised the idle and didnt mess with any of the "fancy" stuff..so it still would almost die every now and then even with the idle set to 1k..i dotn know car is back to stock now so it idles like a camry...ahahaha

Did you notice the sig of the guy saying the hotcam is a waste??

"330rwhp, 334rwtq - Cam Only"

What's up with that? It's not a waste, as they said, it just does different things well. Making max power just doesn't happen to be one of the things it does well.

The cam installed in my C5 is a sleeper cam. It was installed by the previous owner. Needless to say i'd have an X1 in it if i had installed it.

well I am making 393rwhp and 390rwtq and ran a 12.35 untuned and without the UD pulley, Torque arm, and springs so not a waste in my book! so I think high 11's are there, but I am having tranny problems so no racing for now

lets re-cap
me 393/390 12.35 ET
you 330/334 13.12ET

So you made 393/390 with LT's, Off Road y Pipe, LS6 Intake, Magnaflow and the SLP lid. It's not that great and more power could have been made with a better cam.

My sig hasn't been updated. With Vararam and Corsa exhaust, 01+ Exhaust Manifolds with a sleeper cam{212/228 .550/.550 118LSA} I made 364/371.. With an automatic even. With LT's, ORY. I can easily make close to your numbers. My car idles like stock.. Your car idles like crap.

I'm not trying to start a war because frankly i don't even care. Aslong as you're happy with your cam choice it's good enough for me.

I wouldn't say his car idles like crap. Lope is , just needs tuned. I knew I shouldn't have pointed out your sig, just started an internet pi**ing match. Sorry. Let's just leave it alone.

Hey I miss my hot cam, it has a lot better torque curve, and you NEVER! have to change valve springs, Everytime the word HOTCAM is used all this BS starts, just help him with what he needs and leave the opinions to yourself, he has the Hotcam I am sure he fas read every post on how it the cam is good or bad.

well you are correct more powr can be made and its going to with my new cam (238/242 .605/.610 110LSA+2) but I just didn't like how you came out and said
"Why did you waste your money on the hotcam when there lots better cams available?"
I just thought that was rude. He was wanting help and just spent time and money and you said that

When I installed my F15 cam I had to wedge a flathead screw driver inbetween the throttle body and the stop so it could find it's idle without dying. That's a much larger cam than the hot cam and it drove fine on the stock tune after learning it's idle.
