Default Air lid rubbing on hood?

I'm thinking about getting an airlid for my 98 ws6. Any of you guys have problems w/ them rubbing? I'll either be going w/ the SLP or the carbon fiber whisper. Thanks

You'll generally find that it's only SS's that rub. It's because our hoods are closer to the air lid where the center of the scoop is. I had a SLP Perforamance parts and it rubbed really bad on my SS, we put it on a friend Hawk and it never rubbed.

Used lid + used shifter. I am a big fan of the used parts Stomping around boneyards is the best.

My lid fits great and does not rub. Most cars won't rub. Some of the cars that I have seen rub, did not have the tabs on their lid pushed all the way in, or had air filters that were taller than stock. When you have the slp lid on right, it clicks in real tight. I've noticed on my lid that slp also takes material off the bottom of the lid so it won't rub.

My lid rubbed till I realized I didn't have all the rear tabs in place. Once I installed it properly, no more rub.

FWIW... I compared my Whisper lid to my buddies SLP side by side.

The SLP lid is much taller b/c of the neck. It arches from the front to rear where as my Whisper is flat. I'd say the SLP is almost 1/4-3/8" taller at the crest point of the neck. This is where it rubs the hood. Simply an SLP design fault.

I have the Blackwing with no problems. I had the regular slp lid on my last car, and it barely rubbed.

Had an SLP that rubbed, going to buy the donaldson blackwing, fits just as good as stock, better airflow than stock, and does not rub. But alot more money
