Midwest Racing Converters...
Anyone running one of these? If i recall they used to be a sponser here, but I don't pay alot of attention to the sponser list unless I'm needing something. I'm looking at one in the for sale section. Just wanting to get a little feed back on it. Its 9.5 inch 3600 stall with a 2.6 stator. If i recall reading right, the higher the stator the harder it hits the tires, correct? With a stator that size, what will the street driving of that convertor be like? Any help with this would be great. Anything else I should concerned about?

i had a midwest
it was huge
11" or whatever is the closest to stock size they made two years ago.
it was 3400 stall, 2.0 STR
and so streetable, it wasnt streetable.
(too close to stock even for a daily)
i can imagine if youre only adding 200rpm more to the stall,
it would not be much more loose,
esp considering that youre adding .6STR
2.6STR even makes my 4000 stall (barely!!!) streetable.
by the way, 2.0, 2.6 is the Stall Torque Ratio.
the stator is this thing inside the verter with blades on it or something
most verters have 17? 18 blades?
increasing the blade number to 21 is a way to get more STR

Love my Midwest 3500 with a 2.5 str. It has gone way above my expectations for a less than $500 converter. Your rear gears are going to determine how well that 2.66 stator works on the street. With 3.23s or lower (numericly) and a half decently sticky tire it will work great and be real tight. Much more gear than that and you'll be blowing the tires off unless your running a new M/T radial or something stickier. Although, since the GTOs are heavier it might work ok with 3.42s and a regular drag radial but that might be pushing it. I looked at that same converter in the F/S section, it's a real nice converter for the money, though of buying it myself but I need the money for my cam swap.

I have/had one also. I dropped .5 in the 1/4 with a 3000/2.5 stall. Only problem I can say is that it wore down all the splines on my input shaft. I am now swapping in a T-56.
