Default 98 -> 99+ conversions.....

ok, quick question.

i know they use diffrent wiring harness pinouts. i know the hardware is diffrent...

but im pretty sure that most of the sensors are the same on the engine... with the exception of the temp sensor...

if someone were to make a adapter that plugged into the 98s PCM plugs, moved some pinouts around and then the other half of that adapter was plugged into a 99+ PCM, could that work?

i mean, basicly make a 98 -> 99-02 PCM upgrade kit... somthing like:

99+ PCM
PCM pinpout adapter
temp sensor

what else would be needed? i think if it can be made a easy plug and play deal, then the 98s could get the "latest and greatest" in PCM development too...

Well the dash wiring is different too and the gauge cluster, The newer gauge clusters use more data on the serial line to get info to the gauge, the 98 clusters had more wires run to them from the sensors, Nothing too complitcated though. Ill trade everyone there 98 computers for a 99 up computer to get them going, so that will be one less expense

have any more detail on that?

i just wish i had the GM service manuals wiring for both.... i dont own a 98 or 99 (or even a 4thgen.. lol) but its just something ive seen as a problem.. theres a couple friends in the local car club with 98s... if i can figure out every little detail, id like to do it to theirs.. i have HPtuners for 99s and 02s, so i could set them up as 02s (better VE) and not have something to unusual to be supported....

i donno.. its just a idea..

The '99 is actually same PCM from what I've seen...it's just the '98 Fbody (and '97-98 Ybody) that use the bastage PCM.

yes. the physical PCM hardware is identical from 99 to 2002 on the fbodys.

the software running on it differs slightly from year to year. the last two years have the software thats prefable for VE tuning under speed density.
