Default Those w/Painted intakes step inside...

Just trying to tape it up so my buddy can paint it. The 3M green tape isn't sticking, must be too much oil in the plastic. Wondering what everyone used and if any special procedures were done for prep.

Thanks! Mike

All I did with my old LS6 and new FAST was make sure it was clean and then use the 3M tape and it worked. So I would just clean it up a little more

Dawn dish soap will clear any oil/grease problems.

Did you guys have to rough up the surfaces so the paint would stick better?

Simple Green works wonders for degreasing an engine bay. I also use it to get spots out of my floor mats. It is a miracle product for automotive detailing.

CD2 engine degreaser, or most brake cleaners/carburetor cleaners work well too.

Its a polymer molded resin. Doesnt matter what its made of. Use the dawn soap to clean it off and then you can just paint right on it or use a light weight sand paper to get any injection mold lines off it. Then hit it with the paint.

I would definately sand with 400 or 600 grit sandpaper before painting anything. If you don't prep properly it wont stick, so if you going to do it, do it right. I have seen a couple of post about this in the past.

The tape not sticking just saved your *** from a bad paint job. Thank your tape, and then degrease the intake as stated by the others. Have your painter hit it with some of that liquid solvent-like plastic primer/cleaner first to prepare it for regular primer and paint. He should know what it is if he's worth his salt as a painter.

Just make sure you don't get it on anything aluminum.

"Aluminum - Is it safe to use Simple Green on aluminum?
Simple Green products have been successfully and safely used on aircraft, automotive, industrial and consumer aluminum items for over 20 years. However, caution and common sense must be used: Aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green or Crystal Simple Green can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times of All-Purpose Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green with unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green/Crystal Simple Green residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation."
