Default Need help choosing a cam based on my combination

Hey all, it's been a while since I started a thread, but it's that time of year again

Anyways, here's the story. I want a cam desperately. I've been lurking and researching since last summer, and was too chicken to do anything back then. Now I'm ready though.

Here's what I got so far: 02 A4. Kook's LTs/ORY/Hooker Cat-Back. FRA and SLP Lid. LS6 intake (stock) and finally a 3500 stall 2.5 str and stock 3.23.

These are the cams I've narrowed down:

Futral F13 on a 114 lsa
TSP Torquer 2 on a 112+2 lsa
TR 224 on a 114 lsa

You might be wondering why I have the 224 listed. Part of me still wants to go conservative with a good idling cam with little compromise that still makes good power.

On the other hand, I really want to maximize my combo. I'm just not sure my stall and gearing is optimal for the Torquer 2 or F13.

I don't plan on upping the stall speed any, and with the 2.5 str, a gear change will only kill my traction even more.

So, what do you guys suggest? I'm just itching to pick up the phone and call TSP. The Torquer 2 with dual springs, hardened pushrods, ti retainers is only $699. Add a mail order tune for probably really cheap (~200), and I've got a real bargain on my hands.

As much as I've loved the 224 in my past cars, you'll end up wanting more at some point. Go bigger the 1st time. With the tuning available today, you can have much better driving manners with big cams.

If Predator-Z and Patrick G recommend a "big" cam, then I guess I HAVE to order it

I'll get on the phone with TSP as soon as I get off work.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

When in doubt, go bigger!! (this applies to almost everything)

You can go larger than 224 without getting too big for the conveter. Something in the low-mid 230's sounds about right.

The f-13 woulda been my choice, but the the tsp cam should work very nicely as well.

I've been reading about how the Torquer 2 uses a more aggressive grind similar to that of the F13. I was under the impression that the Torquer 2 would have better idle characteristics and better throttle response down low (than the Torquer 1)

So it'll be harder on the springs? The PRC duals should last me at least 15K though right? That'll get me by for about 3 driving seasons (stored 6 months a year, less than "daily driven" the other 6 months )

Yes, you should get 15k miles easy.

Ordering tomorrow guys. Torquer 2 on a 114 lsa to smooth out the idle. Texas-Speed has a cam package special right now in case anybody is wondering. Damn I can't wait!

Thanks for everyone's input.
