Default Tranny Fluid?

What is the best tranny fluid you guys have used? The trans just isn't as smooth as I'd like it to be, I've heard some synthetic tranny fluid would be difference in night and day. Just wondering if anyone has any recommondations.

If it hasnt been rebuilt with carbon blocker rings, stick with regular Dexron III fluid. Synthetics tend to eat away at the stock paper blocker rings.

I believe GM states that the fluid in the T56 never needs to be changed.
