Default Attn T56 builders

Hey guys, Im in need of some assistance. I am going to replace my input shaft seal Part number 15635337 and never have taken a t56 apart before. I have the kentmore "j tool" to install the seal. Please bare with me as i try to explain my questions to the best of my ability, with the assistance from this pic i took.

OK, i notice there are some bolts (red) holding what looks like a plate (yellow) to the t56. When i remove the plate, what should i expect to see? Does this plate use a gasket? If so, is there a P/N for it? What are the TQ specs for the bolts?

Thats all for now. Thanks

Don't remove that 'plate'. That would be the last thing you remove. The geartain and shifter mechanisms all stack up on it.

Actually, you can set the trans. vertically with the front up and remove the bolts. The input shaft, cluster gear and shift rails will all be standing up vertically. As long as you can get everything lined back up you should be ok.

Myself, I would just disassemble it the normal way starting with the extension housing.

Use a gasket maker to reseal the case.

Do a search for the free downloadable service manual. It'll walk you through the whole process easier than I can!

Yep, follow the service manual. The tranny case uses RTV only, no gaskets. It won't be to bad if your just replacing the input seal. I would recommend taking some pictures of the tranny as you take it apart so you know you get things back together right

Good work.

Yeah you can remove the front adapter plate without disturbing the rest of the trans. To replace the front seal only, that's what you do.
