Default liberty or g-force t56?

i'm in the market to have my t56 built to hold ~900 to the tires, i've heard that proshifted t56s from liberty are pretty awesome, but liberty Daryl actually tells me that their gears can't handle that kind of power. i've heard that the Gforce gears can handle that kind of power. my question is...are the gforce gears the same as a liberty proshifted gear, or not? thanks for any info guys.

My understanding of the proshifted gears is that they remove every 3 or 4th tooth to allow for a larger window of engagement for when you shift, thus there is more "play" in the gear and thus I would suspect making it weaker. Also, from my understanding, you need to rev match downshift (learn to heel toe) in order to get the gears synched up properly. I don't know if anyone makes a straight or dog gear package for the T-56 (ala jerico) but if they do and you don't mind a lot of gear noise and have the $$$ either that or the G-force would probably be your best bet for reliability.

The g-force tranny is like 4-5,000 You'd be better off getting a th400. If you are dead set on a manual i'd recommend the g-force. You can buy them outright since they are built with all the other stuff, ie steel 3-4 shift fork.

i think i'm gonna try the liberty with all the good parts and take that as far is it'll go
i'm sure it'll do what i want it to do. futral had great results with his t56 setup, i'm sure a few more tenths are possible.

thank you sir...i tried the th400 thing for a while. it was nice, very fast at the track with unreal consistancy. but i just want something different that i can have a ton of fun with. maybe the power numbers i'm wanting to throw at it are a little high. i'll probably start out on motor (~550) and move up from there...

I have exactly 550 HP at the crank and I'm running a stock T-56 in my 2000 Camaro granny shifting real fast to 10.50s @ 130 with 1.47ish 60 ft times. I'm having a ton of fun and surprising alot of people when they ask how much I'm sprayin and I show them its N/A, all throttle no bottle for me. I have a spare T-56 in the trailer just in case but I'll do safe shifts untill the end of the year then I'll try for a 10.30ish run power shifting. Give a stocker a try you'll have more fun per dollar. Good luck, Tom

thanks for you enthuiasm and info torkman...that's the kind of info i like to see. what are the good upgrades for the t56 other than the liberty gears? what input/output shafts, shift forks etc? i've asked like 10 times with NO answers. what is everyone using for those parts? i already ordered a RAM VDS setup today, and the trans is going to liberty wednesday or thursday.

You can get a Viper Spec tranny built for you. They put in the input/output shaft from the viper t-56, machine the tailshaft housing, then put in steel 3-4 shift fork, carbon fiber blockers, etc...you could probably get one of those for <3000. It would hold A LOT of power, but I think 900rwhp is a little bit high for it. You could try. D&D sells the conversion for like 800-900 bucks, shift fork is like $55, then whatever else you need as far as synchro's or blocker rings...I don't think you will actually need the gears themselves to support 900rwhp.

I dont even think the gforce will hold that much rw. I spoke to D&D and they said the most u really want to throw at their viper spec trans is like 750max.

i'm starting to think that i'll start on motor, then move to a little shot...i don't know that it's going to take 900 to run the number i'm looking for, just that the motor is capable of putting that number down. i'm going with the liberty gears, 3/4 shift fork, input/outputs...what are the carbon fiber blockers, and why the machining of the tail housing? thanks guys

it all gets very expensive very fast.. i reccomend you ride on your stock 6 speed, buy a backup for cheap, and see how far it takes you.

making the car shift better or easier (forks/proshift/syncros) will not help it withstand tq.. so you would be throwing money out the window on that stuff unless you are a poor shifter as well.

i dont have anything exotic in my trans, just built well.
-until i broke 2 mainshafts in 6 days and now were' putting in a viper shaft.

the g force pricing is...expensive!

the tail housing has to be bored and a larger bushing and seal installed to accomodate the larger diameter viper mainshaft

I dont' know what you are talking about, but if you are talking about getting parts, go to www.ddperformance.com They have everything you need for upgrading your T-56.
