general clutch question...
Hey bought a used Spec Stage 3 off someone on here. Well, the pressure plate/clutch has minor divots (sp?) in it. I had the flywheel resurfaced, but no one seems to understand the idea of zero balancing. I'm in Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL area. I didn't have them resurface the pressure plate or clutch, JUST flywheel. If I put it all together, you think it will work ok or should I be concerned about something? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

i know some of spec clutch need shim, since you resurface the flywheel, do you know how much they take off, you will need to add that amount of shim toware the shim you going to put in

The Spec 3 comes with a shim that should be used. The clutch might not disengage all the way if the shim is not used. I think the Helms manual states not to resurface the flywheel.

Here is what is stated in teh helms manual:
Important
In order to maintain the proper component balance, contact surface taper, and heat transfer, manual transmission flywheels are NOT to be machined.

How much did they take off? I think about .015 is the max. As long as your are not over that I think you would be fine. I would most deffant go with the shim now that you had the F/W resurfaced. I think the orginal shim is around .015-.020. So you might want to shim it out about .030.

There isn't a stock shim. SPEC sends a shim with their products. It just looks like a big washer with slots for the slave bolts. You must be able to buy them because I have seen that the textralia people have solved some of their install problems with the SPEC shim. However, if you are all stock, your problem just might be air in the system.
