I'm wondering myself... sounds like a good alternative to the 4L80E and I know GM rates the 65 over the 60 in torque handling.... but haven't seen any convincing evidence yet.. or anyone using them.

The only difference between a 65E and a regular 60E is the 65E comes with 5 pinion planetaries instead of the normal 4 that the 60E has. This is designed for higher torque and weight applications and is why it is used in the Silverado SS and H2. They also have heat treated shafts which are marginally better than a 60Es. We use the GM 5 pinion planetaries in our Level 5 transmissions but prefer to cryo brand new shafts as they are much stronger than the heat treating process GM uses.

quick class in transmission naming
4 = 4 forward speeds
L = longitudnal (vs. T for Transverse)
65 = manufacturer's rated torque capacity
E = electronically controlled
so you see the higher the number, the higher the torque capacity(relative to other transmissions from that manufacturer)

65 what? I hope that's not supposed to mean 650 ft/lb of torque because if it does they're way off!!
