Default 410 Gear

Can someone give me some feedback about switching from a 3.42 to a 4.10 (M6 car).......

What kind of gains did you see and how did it change your RPM on the highway?

I know there are formulas to give me an idea but I would like actual #'s.

Thanks!!!!

Went from consistant 13.0-13.10s to a 12.60 with an UD pulley and 4.10 gears. Here is a pretty good gear calculator- http://www.f-body.org/gears/

I have pulled 116mph in the quarter. If you take a look at the F-Body gear calculator, you will see that I finish the 1/4 mile at around 6200 or so rpm. Bout perfect sice my rev limit is 6400.

If you now your mph in the 1/4 mile, just fill out the calculator for your tire size and gear. Then submit it and look in the forth gear column for your mph and rpm.

If you ever get faster than around 120 mph in the 1/4 mile, you will either have to have a very high rev limit, taller tires or you would have to swap back to 3.73s. Remember that 120mph is something like low 11s in the 1/4 mile for most street cars.

Thanks............so what would everyone suggest........3.73 or 4.10? I do not drive the car that much but also don't want to ruin the highway portion of it........

You won't ruin the Hwy driving part feller. I suggest the 4.10s if you are going to do a gear swap. If you are not sure, go to the web site I gave you and plug some numbers in. I can cruise at eighty miles an hour at about 2000 rpms. Before I did a cam I was getting around 28 mpg with the 4.10s. What do you get with the 3.42s? Probably bout what I got, 28-29mpg at Hwy speeds. If that's excessive then go with the 3.73s I reckon. If anthing, 4.10s make driving in 6th gear more enjoyable.

I have never checked my MPG.............don't really care about it........I just didn't want a screaming motor down the highway.

Thanks for the advice though........pretty easy decision to make. 4.10 it is!
