Default Keep my Gt or go Ls1?

I have had my 02 5spd stang for a couple years. I have intake, pulleys, exhaust, 4.10 gears. Ive been reading a lot about the Ls1 and im thinking of selling my car and buying a Ls1 camaro. there seems to be a lot more potential there. And you can get one for about 10G. What do you guys think?

Do me a favor and take a look at what forum you're posting on. Of course everyone here is going to recommend you go with the LS1.

All bias aside, you're going to be looking at an almost 100bhp increase going to the LS1, so I say go for it if you can afford it.

Well i asked a nearly identical question on stangnet. I got mixed responses. People there said the Ls1 is a lot more difficult and expensive to mod??

Difficult because they are MOD motor guys. The MOD motors will also be difficult to us if we did not deal with them everyday. LS1's are easy to maintain and any type of modification is going to cost money.

Get the LS1.

I agree - go LS1 and you'll be one happy puppy! I'm on my second one now. Very refined and sure it can be expensive to mod but just do it as you go! They fly anyway

Default definitely worth it

LS1's are fast as is. Mine is still stock and I love it. For a mustang to be as fast as a stock LS1 you have to spend a pretty penny. So really IMO I think it is cheaper to maintain a faster LS1 than a fast Mustang. Get an LS1 NOW!(OR JUST KEEP WATCHING US GO BY)

id go with an LS1 over a GT. maybe not a mach 1...theyre about equal...stock that is. the LS1 responds better to mods though. id take an fbod over a GT though. but it sounds like you got some money in your GT and kinda like it. if you like what you got keep it. if you want speed and dont care about anything else...go fbody.

Id say go for the LS1, the power increase is a big step over a GT, plus they do respond to mods very well. You can hit 400 hp very easily with these cars and still be a daily driver. Id def. go for the LS1, GTs are nice, but these cars are awsome.

Well i have almost every basic bolt on available for my car and it is up to nearly stock Ls1 power. I can own most Lt1's or i am neck and neck with them if they have similar mods and good drivers. My friend just bought a 96 GSX 750, and another friend just bought a new subie STI, I need to own them. From a roll im neck and neck with the STI now, but once he starts moding my GT will be left in the dust. As for teh GSX i will probably need to be in the 11's to be close to him. After the mustang is sold im getting a LS1 !. Anyone interested? Never raced or driven hard

LS1 > ALL N/A 4.6 ohc engines.

[/story]

Get an LS1 and never look back. And just imagine how much cheaper cam swaps will be...you only have to buy one!

good call on thinking about an LS1... last year when i was 17, i sold the 87' k-5 blazer and bought a 94 black//black lt1 vette... it was cool... i raced 'stangs and barely beat them or was neck//neck.. i went back to the dealership a month later and saw a silver '98 vette... (silver//black) "WOW" i says... and a week later i traded... ever since then, I get to laugh when i see a GT pulls up and revs his engine. The car is fun to mod too.. (see my sig. for the mods i have so far) i still got 3 years of payments left, but it still makes me grin everytime i start the engine! Good luck with buying the LS1! you will love it!

the only thing a mustang has over the ls1 is the exaust sound, they got the tru-duels from the get go and sound bad ***, other than that they slow in stock form compaird to ls1 stock form. either way you go,... member this, speed cost money so it all depends how fast you wanna go.

5 speed mustangs do also have that uber short first gear that helps cut a killer 60'. But that isn't enough to compensate for all the other area's where an LS1/T56 will shine.
