GTO build : Cams ?
Was going to snag an FBod again, now I may just stick with the GTO for rarity purposes. So few quick GTOs around....
Car is an auto, it will not be a daily driver.
I do not care about dyno numbers at all, I want the car to run well on the street and at the track.
I will not go larger then a 3600 stall, probably go with a Vig 3600 because I do not want to be scraping pieces of the IRS off the ground. This is my tentative plan:
Vig 3600 (underrated, probably will flash to ~ 3900)
Tranny cooler / shift kit
Headers (Kooks?)
Pulley
Cold air w/ throttle body
Cam
75 Shot
Tuning
Thats it. I would like to keep the stock cat back to keep the car quiet, perhaps a cut-out would work.
As far as a cam, the car will weigh a tad over 3800 with me in it. I was thinking something like the Magic Stick is too big, but the normal old school stuff like Thunder 224 or T1 is too small. Any good suggestions for something in the middle?
I would like the car to run 12.6s on motor, and have a chance to dip into the 11s on spray....

There was good thread on doing a 224 on 110 LSA within the last couple days. That would make good power but you'll want a cut-out. A 226/232 114 would also be an option if you want to go a bit bigger and will be keeping the stock catback capped up.
If you're at 13.6 and adding the bolt-on mods described (and hopefully drag radials) you won't need a big cam to acheive 12.6.

I'm on the fence with the convertor. A smaller Vig 3200 would probably work better especially with a small shot. Will the convertor flash much higher then it would in an FBody because of the weight? I was thinking the GTO's gears (3.47?) would keep the convertor a little tighter as opposed to my old Formula's 3.23s. The stock cat-back on the GTO is supposed to be pretty efficient....

Up front you can hear the headers and valve springs, but running down the track or street it's nice and quiet from behind. Sounds good in the car though. Didn't lose any performance on the 1/4, actually gained a tenth on my best run and the DA was the same or higher that day.
Cam & header advice ?
On the camshaft side, I went with a custom grind by EDC.

The vig 3600 will def. flash to over 4000 in a car as heavy as a GTO....and even higher on the gun. I would look into something in the Yank SS line. Maybe a Yank SS3600, or a Pro Yank 3600 extreme (nitrous converter). I thought Yank had an extreme version of the super stock converters for use with power adder's...maybe i was just mistaken.

For a 75 shot, LOL, any verter will handle that.
I would get a "custom" Neal Chance verter to match trans/dif gears and cam powerband.
I shoot up to 200 dry on a Vig 3200, no issues.
