Octane question
Well here goes... Can you run 89 octane in your LS1 ?? Without any side effects ?
The reason I ask is because the price of premium is getting outragious !! I'm looking to start running unleaded plus (89 octane) in my SS.

If you have enough discipline to not RPM the heck out of it, which would make it prone to detonation, I think you would probably be OK with 87 octane if you drove it like a grandma.

Well I put some in the car last night... had a little valve clatter when trying to accelerate on the highway from 65 to about 75..... I'll run out the tank and probably go back to premium.

Avoid the temptation of lower octane gas
I also (foolishly) filled up with a tank of 89 at the local Chevron, and under normal acceleration had valve clatter and it's killing me. Sounds like there's a handful of gravel trying to get out of the cylinders. IMHO the savings of $2-$3 per tank isn't worth risking a $30k car.

Seriously...
If the price of premium is outrageous, do you thinkt he price of regular is acceptable? What are you gonna be out...a couple bucks? Hell, not even a couple bucks if you're only going down to plus.
