if i'm thinking of my #'s right, they're basicly the same. they also offer incandescents with colored coatings. that way you can still dim your lights. led's are primarily on/off, not much for dimming.
i spent about $100 to do mine with led's. probably going to redo it in the colored incandescents. it cost so much because i got the 5 tip led's.....notice i don't have any hot spots.

click pic to make it larger.....

i didnt know u couldnt dim the led ones but now that u say that it makes sense.....i dont like that. i thinkill try and get some colored incadesents. id actually just like to get a ta cluster beings i like the font better anyways. the one thing i dont like about the reg bulbs is it seems as though they would be dimmer beings its the same light but with a colored tint on it. mine are too dark as is.

is there possibly a problem with the rheostat (i know what i'm trying to say, i just hope i used the right term) in your dimmer control? i'd check that out, if you're getting proper voltage through it, then get just 1 colored incandescent for a test run.

As you've seen, the 161 and 194 bulbs are identical in shape and are physically interchangeable. The difference is in the wattage and corresponding brightness. The 161 produces 1 candlepower whereas the 194 produces 2CP so it is twice as bright. You can replace all the 161 bulbs with 194 but you probably shouldn't mix the two in the cluster because you'll have bright spots that will look odd.
