Default Guess the metal from my oil!

Cammed it less than 1000miles ago, changed oil and these were stuck to magnet...wheer did they come from, did my cam walk or something?

This is bad right, I'm confused because the car runs great and all my fluids have been good and such.

Those are 100% positive valve locks. I'd take off your valve covers to see what's up. I'd also ask yourself if you lost any during installation.

Apparently it was a spare that shot off and was lost...I was told that if it broke off a valve spring I would definately know. I guess I'm okay.

Thanks Brandon, I dont even have a TB or pulley so I'm a pretty happy camper. even if a lost lock made it all the way to my oil pan...I hear thats kinda rare, lucky me.

The funny thing is, did you lose two? I'd still pop that valve cover off.

This is a pair valve keepers off ONE valve. Could have been from when the valve springs were removed to do the cam swap. You may still be in good shape, but just to be sure I'd pull the valve covers, to make sure all the keepers are in tact.

Who ever changed the springs during cam install had to have lost two and replaced them without saying anything. You would know it is they came off while the motor is running. Almost 100% chance of major engine damage.

Nice of the installer to at least look for them.

<fliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing> "what was that, oops cant find the keepers. Oh well, just get another pair"

luckily nothing happened. and they found their way safely to the bottom of the pan.

Yea, not the greatest thought. Is there any way they damaged my engine on their way down? The one on the left is intact but the one on the right is "chewed up"

I'd open it up and check, I've seen one keeper holding the valve spring retainer before. Best to make sure before it could be too late.

If you only lost one from each valve, the car will still run good but you could have a very bad situation if the valve lets loose and hits your piston. It is cheep to do now. Make the guy you had do the cam install take it apart and tell him YOU want to inspect it. I would not chance it.

yea...hmmm. I think I'll do that, or take it apart myself.
Whats involved in pulling the covers, I'm guessing it wont be as simple as my 305 chevy.

Disconnect plug wires, remove coils(hard part on passenger side), disconnect PCV hoses, undo 4 bolts in middle of valve cover and that should do it. Just did one today except it was a '98 so it had perimeter bolt valve covers .

HaHa funny i see this post. When i did my cam, it was late like 3am late and a buddy was using his spring compressor tool and were all standing around having a beer and TINK!! goes one side of the valve lock on the first set of spring on the driverside in the front. Everyone stopped and started looken and i said it went in the head. We washed it with 6qts of oil, ran a magnet though the head, got a optic eye....Didnt see anything so we were 99.9% sure not in the head. We had found one on the floor but chaulked it up as one from last cam install. About 1000 mile after cam now, i change the oil last weekend.........THE LOCK WAS ON THE DRAIN PLUG!!! I bout **** my pants, it was untouched too so no harm done but lots of hours lost looken for the damn thing. Thank god it didnt do any damage!!!I am happy i knew where it went now though so that all the locks are accounted for now lol.
PS-sry for long story but kinda funny.
peace rob
