Default lengthing O2 sensor wires

I am installing headers on my C5. I have to remove the rear O2 and use them as my primary O2 from now on. When I pulled the sensors out of the H pipe one of the threads was mangled. So I either have to buy one replacement O2 or take my front ones and lengthen the wires (by cutting and soldering extentions), can this be done?

Yes it can, thats how I did my fronts when I needed to extend them. Just cut only one wire so you dont confuse the wires at a time and extend it. It is easier to just buy extensions, but its cheaper to just cut the wires and extend them, especially if you already have the wire, butt connectors already.

Well from personall experience adding length to o2's can cause problems. Me and a friend did this on his 97 TA and it always threw a o2 related code. We then found out that if there is a difference in resistance this can cause problems. just my .02

MTI and alot of other extend them from the cars harness. Or get the O2 extensions.

There is some type of coating on the wire. I couldn't solder them either.

Have extended mine with no problems, Try to get as close as you can to the same gauge. If the solder dose not take try a small amount of flux.

Just extend them from the cars harness. Not the O2 lines on the sensor.

Don't cut and extend. either get bosch 13111's with the longer harness or buy extensions.

Every car i've scaned with self extended o2's respond poorly. If they are wanting a tune i'll have them replace the o2's before doing so.

I agree with smokingws6. I extended mine with the wire in the pace setter kit and had problems becuase of the resistance. I ended up buying the bosch 13111. That is the rear o2 for the c5

Use crimping electrical conectors sold at Radio Hack. Do not solder. Be VERY careful to use the same guage wire that is in the 02 cable. do not use more wire than is necessary... Also cover each connector with plastic electrical tape so the cables don;t get wet in the rain.

I have done this about a year ago and no problems yet.

It is bastar# rigging but it works...

Seems that for some it works for others it doesn't ... I recall a post a while back about the wires used for the O2 sensor being braided because it somehow uses the space inbetween to calibrate the O2 sensor ... not sure if there's anyt truth to this, but you may be better off buying an extension and trying that

https://ls1tech.com/forums/midwestern-members/387170-fs-ls1-stuff-et-streets.html Tim has one for sale there pretty cheap...

if it's running lean to the point of setting an SES light, or giving insufficient switching type codes, then yes, that very well could be the problem.

Many have had problems in the past even w/stock sensors and extensions with headers... switching to a delphi or bosch rear vette sensor has seemed to fix these problems.
