Default LS1 and LS2 question?

I was thinking about selling my 2000 Trans Am and getting a new GTO. Well today I went to the dealer and test drove a 2005 GTO w/ a LS2 engine and it didnt seem much quicker then my Trans Am. All my T/A has done to it basically is a lid and catback. Is the GTO that much heavier or is there just not that much of a difference between the two engines? Both cars had M6 transmissions

The LS2 in the GTO makes 400hp, and the LS1 in the F-bodies makes 350. But the F-bodies are about 400lbs lighter, thats what makes the big difference.

the gto weights in at around 2 tons and puts down ~350rwhp. your Fbod weighs in at 34xx and should put down ~ 320rwhp.

Alright I knew there was a difference but the salesguy was pretty cool and let me have some fun and it wouldnt even bark second and my T/A barks it at like 3400 RPMish if not earlier. But thats what I thought just a heavier car.

Other then the power issue the drive was great. I liked the way it drove and the transmission seemed to shift smoother then my T/A. On big plus with it was the shorter front end, Overall it drove great im not bashing it or anything but I guess I was just expecting more for 32 grand, but its comperable to the T/A so its stupid to spend 15 K for basically the same performance.

i test drove an A4 ls2 GTO at the autoshow in motion thing a few months ago and it seemed kinda underpowered compared to my car. My friend test drove and m6 one and said it seemed kinda slugginsh too. But it has to be the weight, because the ls2 vettes and SSRs there were some beasts. how much does the SSR weigh??? because it definitely felt lighter than the GTO.

I drove an M6 GTO at the Auto Show in Motion as well and it was a major disappointment. This is definately not for me.

As already said the GTO wins there. I like the way the F Bodies look better the GTO's seem a bit plan, but interior wise the GTO's win in my opinion. And the engine seems not so far back compared to the F-Bodies so working on them should be easier. When he poped the hood I could of changed the Spark plugs within a matter of minutes b/c theres so much more room in the engine bay.
