Patriot 226/226 camshaft...couple quick questions...
Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this cam..
226/226.....585 lift on both.....112lsa
Whats the RPM band on it? Hows it idle? About what kinda power gains should I expect? (Im getting a hell of a deal on it so I almost cant pass it up)
So far I have CAI, S3 Shaner Throttle body, magnaflow catback...Now I dont have headers as of yet but they are on my list of mods soon to come.
ALSO, My ls1 has stock heads and Im going to be using the Patriot "Gold" dual valve spring kit....Just wondering what length pushrod I am going to need.

I doubt you need double springs. Comp 918's should be fine for that cam. For pushrods, go with the stock 7.4's.
You will be able to hear that it is cammed by its idle, but it will idle alright. The 226 is a very close cousin to everybodies favorite cam, the 224.
You'll make 20-30 hp with the cam with your mods. You will not be able to tune it to pass emissions though, so that may be something you want to look into. The 224 is generally accepted as the largest cam you can get and still be emissions friendly.
The powerband is going to be pretty nice. Probably kick in between 2000 and 2500. Make sure you count the cost before you buy a cam for $100 bucks and think you're there. You need springs, rods, retainers, oil pump and timing chain are recomended especially on a '98-'99 or high miliage car. You'll need to either do install yourself and buy some tools, or pay somebody big bucks to do it for you. Then you'll need some oil, coolant, and power steering fluid. Then the tune will run you about $500 bucks.

That cam is being installed in my 00 ss as of last week.I will have it back on thursday.I also went with ls6 style heads.The whole thing w/tune ,hi-end chain and oil pump,tune out the door was 3.400.00.There saying i should be at 405-420rwhp with my supporting mods.
I also need it to be a daily driver but i wanted to hear the camand when i spoke with patriot they said this was fine.I'll drop a reply when i get my car.

Well I have an 04 GTO.....doing the install myself as I have everything I need..and there are no emissions where i live..
Im familiar with all the other things needed to do the install......its going to be pretty painless other then changing the springs. (Long process that is but I got a compressor so its all good)

I opted for the 232/230 Patriot cam. Just arrived at my door today as well. I'll be doing the install later this week when my pushrods and valvespring kit arrives.
