Slp hurst vs Aftermarket shifter

Slp hurst vs Aftermarket shifter
Is an aftermarket shifter any better than the optional slp hurst shifter? Do aftermarket ones have reduced shift distance compared to the slp? I know if you have a stock 6sp shifter its going to be a night and day difference but is it worth the $180-$250 to go to an aftermarket shifter from the slp hurst?

I like the hurst/slp shifter on my T/A, I added the UMI short stick, and it's the perfect combo for me, and I don't need to look any further for a shifter.
YRMV, but it's IMO worth the $26 to order the short stick, and try it on your hurst, if you still think you need a different shifter, then you're only out $26, and you can probably make most of it back selling it to someone else.
Shifter feel is a personal preferance, and what feels good to one might be crap to someone else.

I had a stock shifter on my car and switched to a Pro 5.0 and it is absolutely unbelievable how much better i found the shifting to be. When i used to work at a Pontiac dealer i drove an 02 Trans Am with the Hurst option and actually it wasn't that bad. I mean just do what 2K2 said about the short stick because the Hurst didn't seem all that bad. The stock shifter not the Hurst is the one i would defintely change.

my car came with the hurst and i hated it... it vibrated a lot and it just felt awkward. i switched to a Pro 5.0 and kept the **** from the hurst (loved the ****). for me, it feels a little 'notchy' going into 4th, but overall its really solid, and i feel more 'in touch' with the car.

i put lou's short stick on my stock hurst and didn't think it could get any better. put on a pro 5.0 after 3 years and couldn't believe how much more i enjoyed it. i highly recomend the pro 5.0 with a shorter stick if you do a lot of racing.
