SEMA 05 - 500 cube LS1 Shortblock Unveiled
I just got home from SEMA show and what a great show it is this year. Alot of great parts and tons of new stuff out this year. (And the models were especially fine this year)
This company released a billet deck spacer to increase deck height by about an inch. This incorporates some custom Darton sleeves. This spacer uses a custom special cometic gasket between the block and the spacer and the taller sleeves that stick up.
This allows a 4.5" STROKE with a good rod ratio. This motor was 500 cubes.
They do this through shipping your bare block to them, and they send it back to you completed. It is only done in house by them. They had no retail pricing available at the show. It is available now.

I heard something about a block last week that had a higher deck that will be debuted at SEMA, unfortunetly I was expecting a complete aftermarket casted block, the whole resleeved factory block kind of makes me think............ I'm gonna sit back and see what happens. Great idea but so was dry sleeves in LS1 blocks.

Looks like a pretty neat idea, but it certainly would need to be proven before I'd ever consider it! Also, I would think it would work okay for NA, but I don't think it would stand up to big FI/N2O usage nearly as well.
What's used for an intake???

As they say, there's no replacement for displacement. I'm tired of screwing around with N2O crap on my 346 and my next LS motor will be a big one.

That's what my plans are for!

Doesn't at all appear to be a reliable setup that I would spend my hard earned money on. Besides, nowadays it doesn't take endless cubic inches to make mega HP anymore. I'll keep my bullitproof LS2 anyday and throw on some boost if I need more.

ooooh! a deckplate LS2? cool. I remember a few years back when people started doing this to their Honda/Acura motors and were getting huge increases in available torque... and with a proper rod/stroke ratio it will last just as long as any other similarly modded motor... the intake manifold is an interesting problem with the heads farther apart though.
cool to see the LSx market get a big amount of support

My 622 has 4.625 bore and stroke, but the bore on this 500 would be much less than the 4.50". I wouldn't buy this particular setup, but I am a big fan of ci.

Old Ponitac 455's were undersquare (or are undersquare...however you look at it). They run fine and rev way past 6500. Like LOnSlo said, with the right rod/stroke ratio, you'll be fine. I'd be curious what the long block looks like and if every thing still fit in the engine bay the same with the heads moved around.

Well if you dont want to do a 500 cube motor this way, just buy the new world block that is available in tall deck and it would be a completely one piece setup instead of this.
