MAF ends
When you do a search here for "MAF ends" you find all kinds of stories and opinions, mostly negative.
Having just bought and installed MAF ends on my LS1 GTO, I was wondering f there s there anybody out there who has put Maf Ends, ie Tbyrne, etc. on thier MAF and experienced trouble free operation from the get-go?
My car is without a transmission right now, so I have yet to start it up with the MAF ends installed.

Prior to a re-calibration, will the car be running leaner or richer?
What is the extent of the recalibration? Is it a baseline correction to the fuel tables, such as 5% richer or leaner?
I've had people tell me that there is a fuel trimming effect that causes te motor to run 4-7% ricehr but I've also read a lot of posts by guys whose car lean out after putting on MAF ends. As with all mods, it seems like for every bit of knowledge gained, you wind up more confused than before.
Would you think that adding/ pulling 4-7% throughout the rpm range via a hand held programmer would compensate for the effect?

I'd heard from one source that with ported MAF ends, the part throttle A/F will lean out by 4-7% but that the WOT A/F may fatten up by about that much due to an overcorrection. Not sure if this is true, seems like whatyou may be saying, but still not very helpful, unless it can be verified by someone who has put this theory to the test.
Then again there are guys who have put up before and after dyno graphs that show immediate positive WOT gains throghout the rpm band with a simple MAF end swap, so it doesn't seem like the A/F could be getting pushed that fat, or it would rob some power, wouldn't it?
