Default Spark plug question for experienced tech.'s or racers please

My car loves Autolite 103's gapped @ .042". Has intake, heads, & mild cam. I know that many people use NGK's, but, mine seems to like these best. Anyone know a lot about these old faithfull's? Is there any advantage in increasing the gap to say .046? Car makes 380RWHP & 420 #-ft. tq.. Thanks.

I would think a bit bigger gap would be better...say .050 or so.

Thanks. I know that .055 causes my car to backfire. BlackHawkT/A has suggested .050". So, maybe working my way towards .050" is the way to go. Will start with .046" & see what happens.
