whats up coasties!
I am getting out of the Army soon and was thinking about going in to the coast guard. I am in the infantry now as an e-4 promotable. I would like to be either a rescue swimmer or flight mechanic. what are the odds that I will get stationed in my home town of Wilmington N.C. or Hawaii? Would I carry any rank to the coast guard? Would I need to go to basic training? also thought about the coast guard reserve do they offer rescue swimmer as well as flight mechanic? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Hey guys,
I'm a flight mechanic in Savannah, GA right now. You can get into the guard, being your infantry, you'll be an E-3 coming into the guard. Just gotta sign up for a school and graduate and your an E-4. Making rank is alot easier than it seems in the Army.
The reserves are taking away the aviation rates. And there would be no chance at all to be a reserve swimmer. They did have AMT and AET personel that went from active duty to reserve, but now they are doing away with them.
Aviation wise, there is Elizabeth City, NC, not Wilmington. Just go to a recruiting office and check it out, then come on here and tell us what they said, we'll try and tell you which parts are bullshit and which are true....We all know how recruiters are haha.

AET2 at airstation corpus christi, heading to ARSC in elizabeth city this summer. as far as aviation rates in the reserves, none are available. to become a flight mech you can either be an AET or an AMT, both share the job, so you need to figure out which you will rather be doing....working on engines/gear boxes, etc. or chasing wires.
