Southie's Setup Part II. Object: off the shelf 346ci max power. ETP 225, TRaK (LSK)
Given it much thought, I've decided to go all out out on a moderate 346ci. build-up using off the shelf stuff (instead of the low lift, sleepy lobe, budget head setup that I had spec'd before for this new project). This is my second project, this time, not on a daily driver, so what the hey.
Based on a few recent posts with feedback from Patrick G and others, along with the overall LSK discussion, I think I might as well join the LSK guys in exploring the high lift zone (which suits these heads very well).

BTW, sorry if these setup posts are annoying, but they're helping me hammer out what I really want to do before I go and spend a few thousand dollars.

You know this already, but don't forget to add that you'll be porting the FAST intake to match the ETP 225s. No need to knock down the excellent airflow of the heads with an unported intake. Also, you may decide later on to ditch the MAF and go speed density. The low speed driving manners are so much improved when you're not relying on a MAF being freaked out by reversion pulses.
If the heads are as good as they should be, you should be at or above 500 rwhp. I'm going to swap my 205s for AFR 225s (as soon as they ship) and hope to gain some more power. It will be a true A-B comparison. Same shortblock and bolt-ons. Just different heads.

Last time, I didn't port the 90mm LSX intake and it still did well, but this time, might as well do some port matching.
As for the SD tuning, that's something I've got to learn about now.
I'd like to see you break 500rwhp with those AFR 225's. That would be great news.

I can't wait to see some more ETP results myself, so I say go for it. I do have a question. Why the exhaust set-up? Not saying its a bad idea or anything, just wondering your reason.

I want to retain a Y-pipe for 2 reasons:
1- clearance purposes. The curb cut to get into my driveway is steep and an X-pipe setup may scrape.
2- noise (I live in a noise restricted area)
If I'm going to be using a Y-pipe, might as well incorporate the proven 4" Flowmaster Scavenger Merge collector used in Mufflex/QTP Y-pipes. If I run a 4" Mufflex catback from that Y-pipe, I'll have 4" dia. exhaust running all the way out back, exiting out the rear of the car, never having been constricted down to 3" in any place after the left and right pulses are merged (the nice looking Edelbrock Y-pipe seems to provide a nice junction, but it does come down to one 3" pipe when it links to the I-pipe). The Spintech or Flowmaster mufflers used by the Mufflex catback aren't exactly the best flowing, so a 4" QTEC cutout in the I-pipe will allow me to see exactly how much power is being restricted at the muffler (if any), plus, I do like to run with an open cutout every once in a while.
Long winded explaination, but that's the story.

What do you think about using the Grand cup cam with 1.8 ratio rockers from the ls7 vette? That will pick up the lift from .570 to .604.
Do you really expect the valvetrain to hold up to the trak cam on the road course?

1st off, the car will see the occassional open track day and will not see an entire season's worth of track time. I think, just from my uneducated deduction, properly set up Comp 921's are up to the task for sustained periods of RPM, and perhaps some upgraded lifters may be in order. Do I think that it will hold up? We'll see. Being that this is not my daily driver, I can afford to experiment. At the end of the day, I may be all wrong about this, but I'd like to find out.
I think the Cup cam will require some valve reliefs. It also will give up lots of low and mid range response compared to the setup I have listed above (along with driveability).
Along your lines of thinking, a GMPP ASA cam with Vinci/Crane accel. lift 1.8 rockers would make a nice setup, bringing lift to .55X range (this would better suit a TEA stage 1 type head which makes good mid range numbers).

If you have to buy new hydraulic lifters anyways, would a solid roller cost that much more? Solid roller lifters are lighter and can handle stiff springs without collapsing. Maybe thatd be a better way to go.
