Setting lash question and adjuster

Setting lash question and adjuster
I am setting the lash cold to get started and want to make sure its right. I initally purchased a lash adjuster from summit but came the wrong size. We used an allen to set the lash @ .006 and once we tighten the nut down it seems to tighten up slightly. Do I need to get an adjusting tool so I can hold the hex while I tighten the nut???? We're setting the lash @ .006 and .008 cold.

Yes that is normal. You either need the tool or need to get the feel of how "loose" it needs to be to end up correct when you tighten it down. Try turning the allen wrench slighty to the left at the same time you are snugging the bolt. Takes a little to get used to but once you get it it is easy without the tool.
.006 is awfully tight isnt it? I have mine set at .025 cold and .020 hot.

I think it tightens up slightly at temperature (As the metal expands). I am not an expert so I may be wrong but my motor tightens up when it is at temp.. It went from .025 cold to right at .020 hot. I would hate to see you set it tight and then not have any lash left in it at temp. That could do bad bad things.

Luckily pulling the coilpacks and valve cover isn't too hard. You might have to do a trial/error type deal until you figure it out. Then you'll know for sure. Keep in mind that if you're going to miss the lash setting, miss it tight, not loose.
